The Blue Ribbon Tutors Story
After years of conversing with his wife about ways to better support students, Blue Ribbon Tutors was founded by Dr. Keith Stephenson. Keith and his wife, Jamie, have served as professional educators for their entire professional careers. Jamie has served as a teacher, instructional specialist, and talent development coach. Keith served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. In addition, he opened and/or managed a network of schools in states across the country including Delaware, New Jersey, California, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC. Together, Keith and Jamie have over 50 years of experience in working directly with students. Over the years, they have worked with thousands of students who were both excelled and struggled academically. For the students who struggled, it was often not due to their own faults. These students often suffered from teachers and/or school systems who failed to tailor their academic programs to meet the academic needs of individual students. Blue Ribbon Tutors is designed to customize our services to maximize the potential of each student.
Our Parenting Journey
Jamie and I have three sons, Bryce, Justin, and Grant. If you have multiple children, you can attest to the fact that each of your children has a unique different personality. Your child’s personality often impacts the way or style in which he or she learns. The Stephenson boys are no different. Each has his own strengths and challenges. Even though our sons benefit from having parents who are career educators, our family’s educational journey has been very challenging and has exposed numerous shortcomings of various schools and school systems.
As a family, selecting the best schools for our children has not been easy. In our attempt to find the correct fit, our sons have attended public, charter, and private schools. While each school did well in some aspects of educating our sons, none of the schools met the academic needs of all of our children. Unfortunately, when our sons fell short of meeting or exceeding academic targets, the school(s) placed blame on our son(s) without accepting or understanding the inadequacies embedded within the school’s instructional program. The sad truth, schools that service hundreds of students or have classrooms with over 20 students are going to provide a general education with little customization to fully maximize the potential of your child. At Blue Ribbon Tutors, our educators work directly with students to reinforce and master skills they missed in school.
Blue Ribbon Tutors operates on the premise that every child can be academically successful. As educators, we have the responsibility understand the strengths and challenges of each child and work strategically to improve his or her overall performance. More importantly, we work to understand where students soar and design a customized tutoring program to accentuate their strengths. We believe that every student has the right to experience academic success.
